  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup finely chopped celery
  • ¼ cup finely chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon capers drained and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
For Serving
  • 8 large butter lettuce leaves
  • Fresh lemon wedges optional
  • Sliced cucumber optional
  • Fresh herbs optional

Method

  1. Drain the tuna thoroughly and add it to a medium mixing bowl. Flake it gently with a fork.
  2. Add the mayonnaise, celery, red onion, pickle relish, capers, Dijon mustard, parsley, and lemon juice.
  3. Stir gently until everything is evenly combined and the tuna salad reaches a creamy, scoopable consistency.
  4. Season with salt and black pepper. Taste and adjust the lemon juice, mustard, or seasoning as desired.
  5. Wash the lettuce leaves and pat them completely dry.
  6. Place the lettuce leaves on a serving plate and spoon the tuna mixture into the center of each leaf.
  7. Add cucumber slices, fresh herbs, or a squeeze of lemon if desired.
  8. Serve immediately while the lettuce is crisp.

Notes

Drain the tuna very well to prevent watery tuna salad.
Dry the lettuce leaves thoroughly before assembling the wraps.
Butter or Bibb lettuce works especially well because the leaves are flexible and sturdy.
For a lighter filling, replace half of the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt.
Add diced jalapeño or hot sauce for a spicy variation.
Keep the tuna filling refrigerated until ready to serve.
For the crispest wraps, store the tuna salad and lettuce separately and assemble just before eating.
