Ingredients
Method
- Add the ground turkey, grated onion, garlic, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to a large mixing bowl.
- Gently mix until the ingredients are evenly combined. Do not overmix.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾-inch thick.
- Press a shallow indentation into the center of each patty with your thumb. This helps the burgers cook evenly and maintain their shape.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully place the turkey patties in the skillet.
- Cook for 5–6 minutes on the first side without pressing down on the patties.
- Flip the burgers and cook for another 5–6 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- During the final minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover the skillet briefly to melt the cheese.
- Toast the hamburger buns in the skillet for 1–2 minutes, if desired.
- Place each turkey burger on a toasted bun and add lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and your favorite sauce.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
Use 93% lean ground turkey for a good balance of flavor and moisture. Grated onion adds moisture without leaving large pieces in the patties. Avoid pressing the burgers while they cook because this can release their juices. Use an instant-read thermometer to make sure the center reaches 165°F. Cook in batches if your skillet is too small to comfortably hold all four patties.
