Ingredients
Method
- Preheat the oven according to the cake mix package directions. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the chocolate cake batter following the package instructions.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 28–32 minutes.
- Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes.
- Using the handle of a wooden spoon or a thick straw, poke holes evenly across the surface of the cake, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the cookies and cream pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes, until slightly thickened.
- Immediately pour the pudding over the cake, gently spreading it with a spatula so it fills the holes.
- Cool the cake completely.
- Spread the whipped topping evenly over the cooled cake.
- Sprinkle the crushed Oreo cookies over the whipped topping.
- Garnish with whole Oreo cookies, mini chocolate chips, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup if desired.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.
Notes
Don't wait too long before pouring the pudding, as it thickens quickly.
Poke plenty of holes so the pudding reaches every bite.
For the best texture, chill the cake overnight before serving.
Add whole Oreo cookies just before serving to keep them crisp.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator.
